Dynamic layer drawing paints extra squares.

I implemented dynamic layers based on the some samples on the forums.

I noticed that in my implementation, when

dynamicMap.DynamicMapEnabled = true;

The map flashes Black twice. Not sure if this is OK but seems odd.
And after drawing, there are square guide lines on the map.

My question is, is this NORMAL. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, when I remove this dynamic layer from the TOC, the base map does not paint properly.
What am I missing here?
