How to determine which band in multiband raster is red, green, and blue?

Hello,

How would one go about determining which band in a multiband raster is the red, green, and blue band? One can't assume that the red band will the the first band and so on. So then how to determine the index for the red, green, and blue bands? I would have thought that there would be a property on one of the RasterBand interfaces to help in determining this but I can't seem to find something.
